NPORS N202 – 360° Excavator Above & Below 10 Tonnes
Our main excavator course is NPORS N202 – 360° Excavator Above and Below 10 Tonnes. This covers both tracked and wheeled excavators commonly used on construction, groundwork and civil engineering projects across East Anglia.
Delegates learn how to operate the machine safely, carry out essential checks, configure the excavator for different tasks and work confidently in realistic site conditions. The course combines classroom theory with extensive practical operating time to build genuine workplace competence.
Industry Knowledge and Operator Responsibilities
As part of the course, delegates develop a basic understanding of the construction industry, the dangers associated with working on site and their responsibilities as a plant operator.
Training also includes a working knowledge of the manufacturer's handbook for the particular excavator being used, helping operators understand the machine, follow operating instructions correctly and work in accordance with recognised safe working practices.
Machine Familiarisation and Safety Checks
Delegates learn how to locate and identify the major components of the excavator and explain their functions. Training also covers the steering, driving and braking controls and how each control should be used during normal operation.
The course includes identifying, using and maintaining the appropriate PPE for excavator operation, as well as carrying out all required pre-operational checks in accordance with manufacturer guidance and current legislative requirements.
Operators also learn how to safely mount and dismount the machine, start and stop the engine correctly and move the excavator away safely before bringing it to a controlled stop.
Safe Travel and Site Operation
Delegates learn how to configure the excavator for travel and manoeuvre it safely across varying terrain, including both open and confined working areas.
Training also covers carrying out the necessary safety checks at the work area before beginning operations, helping operators identify hazards and prepare the machine correctly for the task ahead.
The course develops the practical skills needed to manoeuvre the excavator safely to the work area and configure it correctly in readiness for excavating operations.
Excavating and Load Handling Skills
Practical excavating tasks form a major part of the course. Delegates learn how to carry out excavating operations safely, accurately and efficiently while maintaining control of the machine and working within safe operating limits.
Training includes loading material onto transporting vehicles or into containers, as well as reinstating excavations, grading surfaces and levelling ground to the required standard.
Attachments and Shutdown Procedures
Delegates also learn how to safely fit and remove excavator attachments where applicable, helping ensure equipment is used correctly and safely for different tasks.
The course finishes with the correct end-of-shift and shutdown procedures, including safely positioning the machine, shutting it down correctly and leaving it in a suitable condition for its next use.
Courses for Every Experience Level
Not every operator starts in the same place, which is why we offer Excavator Training for all experience levels.
Our course options include:
• Novice operator training for complete beginners
• Refresher training courses to renew your skills

Theory Training Covers:
• Operator responsibilities and site safety
• Industry hazards and safe working practices
• Manufacturer's handbook and operating procedures
• Machine components and their functions
• Steering, driving and braking controls
• PPE requirements for excavator operation
• Pre-operational safety checks
• Machine stability and safe excavation practices
• Site hazards and work area safety checks
Practical Training Covers:

Practical Assessment
Delegates complete a theory test followed by a practical assessment to demonstrate that they can operate the excavator safely and efficiently in realistic working conditions.
The assessment covers safe machine operation, manoeuvring, excavation work, loading operations and the correct completion of shutdown procedures in accordance with recognised industry standards.
Accredited and Recognised Qualifications
We provide NPORS and CPCS accredited training, both of which are widely recognised and accepted across UK construction sites. This means your qualification is recognised by employers and contractors throughout the industry.
For operators who want to progress further, we also offer NVQ Level 2 assessments. These can help existing card holders progress towards the Blue Competent Operator Card and demonstrate a higher level of occupational competence.
Recognised Industry Progression
A recognised excavator qualification can help improve employment opportunities, increase site access and support career progression within the construction and plant industries.
Whether you are starting a new career in plant operation or building on existing experience, gaining the correct accredited certification is an important step towards working safely and professionally on site.

Why Proper Excavator Training Matters
Excavators are powerful machines that can present significant risks if operated incorrectly. Proper training helps operators understand safe operating procedures, recognise hazards and make better decisions while working on site.
Well-trained operators are more confident, work more efficiently and help reduce the risk of accidents, damage and costly downtime, making professional training an important investment for both individuals and employers.
Building Confidence on Site
Our training is designed not only to help delegates pass their assessment, but also to prepare them for real site conditions. Practical operating time, clear instruction and ongoing support help build the confidence needed to work safely and effectively from day one.
