Course Content
Delegates will learn to:
- Understand the roles and responsibilities of a Vehicle Marshal
- Identify hazards and risks associated with vehicle movements in confined areas
- Understand relevant legislation, including the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974, HASAWA, PUWER, and relevant Approved Codes of Practice
- Conduct site checks to plan and maintain safe routes for vehicle movement
- Use recognised hand and radio signals effectively when guiding drivers
- Maintain safe positioning to avoid being in a blind spot or danger zone
- Work with various types of vehicles, including lorries, delivery trucks, and plant vehicles
- Ensure pedestrians and plant remain clear of operating zones
- Communicate clearly and accurately to support safe reversing and manoeuvring operations
- Understand the safe systems of work for vehicle control and on-site traffic management

Course Duration
Novice Operator: Typically, 1 day
Experienced Operator / Refresher: Half-day to 1 day
Duration may vary depending on experience and the number of participants.
Assessment
All delegates will complete:
A theoretical assessment (verbal or written)
A practical assessment demonstrating competent marshalling and communication during vehicle movements
Successful candidates will receive an NPORS Operator Card for N403 – Vehicle Marshal.
Entry Requirements
Delegates must be 18 years or older.
A good understanding of spoken and written English is essential.
Participants must be physically and medically fit to work around moving vehicles.
This course can also be delivered by one of our instructors that speak Russian, Polish, or Lithuanian.
Certification
Upon successful completion of both theoretical and practical assessments, candidates will be awarded an NPORS Operator Card (N403 – Vehicle Marshal), valid for 5 years from the date of issue or 2 years if they require to have CSCS logo.
