Course Content
Delegates will learn to:
- Understand the roles and responsibilities of a Plant Marshal / Banksman
- Recognise hazards associated with moving plant and vehicles on site
- Control and coordinate the movement of vehicles and plant safely
- Understand key legislation including Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, PUWER, and LOLER
- Establish and maintain safe zones for vehicle and pedestrian movement
- Use standard, recognised signals for guiding drivers and operators
- Communicate effectively using hand and radio signals where applicable
- Understand visibility aids (mirrors, cameras, sensors) and blind spot awareness
- Conduct risk assessments and implement suitable control measures
- Recognise the importance of PPE and maintaining safe working practices

Course Duration
Novice Operator: Typically, 1 day
Experienced Operator / Refresher: Half-day or 1 day (depending on experience)
Duration may vary depending on prior knowledge and group size.
Assessment
Each delegate will complete:
A theoretical knowledge test (verbal or written)
A practical assessment to demonstrate competence in safely marshalling plant and vehicle movements
Successful candidates will receive an NPORS Operator Card for N133 – Plant Marshal (Banksman).
Entry Requirements
Delegates must be 18 years or older.
A basic understanding of spoken and written English is required.
Delegates must be physically and mentally fit to work around moving vehicles.
This course can also be delivered by one of our instructors that speak Russian, Polish, or Lithuanian.
Certification
On successful completion of both the theory and practical assessments, delegates will receive an NPORS Operator Card (N133 – Plant Marshal / Banksman), valid for 5 years from the date of issue or 2 years if they require to have CSCS logo.
