Course Content
Delegates will learn to:
- Understand the roles and responsibilities of a ride-on roller operator
- Comply with relevant health, safety, and environmental legislation
- Identify and explain the main components, controls, and functions of the roller
- Conduct thorough pre-operational checks and report any defects
- Safely mount, start, manoeuvre, and dismount the machine
- Compact materials to the correct specification using suitable techniques and patterns
- Identify different soil and aggregate types and their compaction requirements
- Maintain stability and control on slopes and uneven ground
- Recognise and manage site hazards, including proximity to other workers and plant
- Shut down, secure, and store the roller safely after use

Course Duration
Novice Operator: 2 to 3 days
Experienced Operator / Refresher: 1 day
Duration may vary depending on prior experience and group size.
Assessment
Each delegate will complete:
A theoretical knowledge test (verbal or written)
A practical operating assessment demonstrating safe and competent use of the roller
Successful learners will receive an NPORS Operator Card for N214 – Ride-On Roller.
Entry Requirements
Delegates must be 18 years or older.
A good level of spoken and written English is required.
All participants must be medically fit to operate compacting plant safely.
This course can also be delivered by one of our instructors that speak Russian, Polish, or Lithuanian.
Certification
Candidates who successfully complete both assessments will be awarded an NPORS Operator Card (N214 – Ride-On Roller), valid for 5 years from the date of issue or 2 years if they require to have CSCS logo.
