Course Content
Delegates will learn to:
Understand the roles and responsibilities of a Crane/Lift Supervisor and associated team members (Slinger/Signaller, Crane Operator, Appointed Person, etc.)
Interpret lift plans, risk assessments, and method statements correctly
Understand relevant legislation, including LOLER, PUWER, HASAWA, and BS 7121
Plan and brief lifting operations to site teams effectively
Identify hazards and implement suitable control measures to maintain safe systems of work
Monitor lifting operations to ensure compliance with procedures and safety standards
Manage communication and coordination between lifting teams and site management
Handle environmental factors such as load weight, wind, ground conditions, and visibility
Recognise unsafe lifting conditions and take corrective action
Maintain records, logs, and documentation relating to lifting operations

Course Duration
Novice Supervisors: Typically, 3 to 5 days
Experienced Supervisors / Refresher: 1 to 2 days
The duration may vary depending on experience and the number of delegates.
Assessment
Delegates are assessed through:
A theory test (verbal or written) covering UK legislation and site safety requirements
A practical assessment involving simulated or live lifting operations under supervision conditions
Upon successful completion, candidates will receive an NPORS Operator Card for N405 – Crane/Lift Supervisor.
Entry Requirements
Delegates must be 18 years or older.
A good understanding of spoken and written English is essential.
Ideally, delegates should have experience working as a Slinger/Signaller (NPORS N402) or in lifting operations.
Candidates must be medically fit to supervise lifting tasks safely.
Certification
Upon successful completion, delegates will be awarded an NPORS Operator Card (N405 – Crane/Lift Supervisor), valid for 5 years from the date of issue or 2 years if they require to have CSCS logo.
